Expecting Turbulent Waters

The boat rests quietly on the tranquil water

Drifting ever so gently with each soft wave

And though it remains serene... for now

It awaits the impending storm looming above

Expecting turbulent waters

Which will propel the boat... sometimes so swiftly it overturns

The blessing is that while we know storms will always come

We also know that there will be calm waters again

Grief is like that... a slowly drifting boat on calm water

And an overturned boat in a storm

As long as we know how to swim

We will never sink

And we do know how to swim
