One of my favorite bands to listen to right now is Role Model. And Tucker, aka Role Model, is… well… a cutie. He is also younger than my daughter, so I am going to behave myself here. Mostly. LOL
But the truth is, I love his music. All of it. But every time I hear Sally, something wakes up inside me.
The girl who used to love to dance.
The woman who knew how to have fun.
The part of me that didn’t give a damn what I looked like, who was watching, or whether I was being appropriate or not.
Sally makes me want to dance like no one is watching. Sally makes me smile. I love a song that can do all of that.
And it got me thinking about my end-of-life playlist. It is almost 17 hours long. Yes, Role Model is on there... and so is the Counting Crows, Bob Dylan, Berlin, Metallica, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Oingo Boingo, Post Malone, Salt-n-Peppa, James Taylor, Frank Sinatra, 10,000 Maniacs, Van Morrison, Talking Heads, and so many more.
Seventeen hours of songs that tell the story of me, from the music of the ’60s to the music I am listening to in my ’60s. It is less of a playlist and more of a diary.
When I am dying, I want my music playing.
I want to laugh.
I want to remember.
I want to feel joy.
I want each song to take me somewhere... to a dance floor, a road trip, a person I loved, memories with my friends, and a version of myself I haven’t seen in years.
And yes… I definitely want Sally playing.
Because if I am lying in that bed, surrounded by the people I love, I want some part of me to still be dancing. And maybe Role Model being ridiculously hot doesn’t hurt.
I am hoping I have another 20 or 30 years to live, and if I do, I have got a whole lot more music to add. And a lot more dancing to do!!!
When the time comes, I think I will die smiling... because I had a hell of a lot of fun getting here.
What's on your play list?
